Brook has repeatedly consulted and collaborated with faculty on the integration of social media platforms to enhance learning in their online and face-to-face courses. This firsthand experience serves as the basis for Brook’s presentation “Make Facebook Your Friend: Expanding the Classroom with Social Media,” which also compiles research on the topic along with best practices and technical requirements for the most popular social media platforms.
Brook has delivered the presentation at the 2012 Lilly South Conference on College and University Teaching, the UPCEA South Conference, and on UNCG’s campus through the Faculty Teaching and Learning Commons. The presentation demonstrates how Facebook, Twitter, WordPress, YouTube, and Google+ have been successfully used to enhance student discussion, promote collaborative student work, boost engagement in course materials, facilitiate synchronous faculty-student communication, allow faculty to easily post and edit web-based lecture content, and enable creativity among students.
